Durham Inspired Computer Science Scholarship for Underrepresented Undergraduate(2025)

The Durham Inspired: Computer Science scholarships are is offered due to the generous support of our donors and are specifically designed to support applicants from underrepresented backgrounds.
Durham University (legally the University of Durham) is a collegiate public research university in Durham, North East England, with a second campus in nearby Stockton-on-Tees. It was founded by an Act of Parliament in 1832 and granted a Royal Charter in 1837. It was one of the first universities to commence tuition in England for more than 600 years and claims to be the third oldest university in England (which would make it the seventh or eighth oldest in the UK), although this is disputed
Eligibility Criteria for 2025 Durham Inspired Computer Science Scholarship
The applicant must have:
- A household income below £42,875 (as determined by Student Finance)
- and meet at least one of the following criteria
- Be the first generation in your immediate family to attend University
- Be from a background currently underrepresented in Computer Science
Preference will be given to applicants from the North East of England - defined as having a postcode beginning with DH, DL, NE, SR or TS.
Selection process
- All eligible applications for the Durham Inspired Scholarship will be considered based on their personal statement, references and academic status
- Other scholarship awards may also be taken into account when considering the allocation of the scholarship
- The University may use additional datasets to identify applicants who come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression to higher education or high levels of socio-economic deprivation

Submit the following by the scholarship deadline of 15th April 2025
A completed scholarship application form
Provide a copy of your Student Finance letter confirming the amount of the maintenance loan you will receive to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk If you do not have this information by the scholarship deadline, please provide it as soon as you receive it from Student Finance England.
Arrange for a reference in support of your scholarship application to be sent by email to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk.
Please ensure your referee submits the reference on letter headed paper, which contains:
- Their name
- Position
- Contact details
- The name of the scholarship you have applied for
- Your full name
