2025 MINDS Fully Funded Scholarship Program to Study in Africa

MINDS Scholarships offers opportunities to Africans who wish to pursue postgraduate studies within Africa, outside of their own countries.

Through tailored leadership development activities, the MINDS Scholarship Programme aims to nurture leaders who have a continental development mindset—leaders who will facilitate greater cohesion and cooperation between African countries.

To be eligible to receive a MINDS Scholarship, an applicant must have been accepted to study at one of the following institutions:

EAST AFRICA

  1. African Leadership University, Rwanda
  2. Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda, Rwanda
  3. Makerere University, Uganda
  4. Strathmore University, Kenya

SOUTHERN AFRICA

  1. African Leadership University, Mauritius
  2. University of Cape Town, South Africa
  3. University of Mauritius, Mauritius
  4. University of Witwatersrand, South Africa

NORTH AFRICA

  1. Al Akhawayn University, Morocco
  2. Université Cadi Ayyad, Morocco
  3. Université Mohammed V, Morocco

WEST AFRICA

  1. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana
  2. Pan-Atlantic University (Lagos Business School), Nigeria
  3. University of Development Studies, Ghana

Eligibility Criteria for 2025 MINDS Fully Funded Scholarship Program to Study in Africa

To be considered for a Mandela Institute Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country
  2. Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) outside of your country of citizenship and/ or residency
  3. Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year
  4. Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/course in the last two completed years of study
  5. Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/requirements set out in the application form
  6. Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

Required Documents for the MINDS Scholarship:

To apply for the MINDS Scholarship, the following documents must be submitted on the application page. Each attachment should not exceed 2MB in size and must be in PDF format:

  1. A copy of the data/ bio page of your passport.
  2. A certified academic transcript/results slip of the last two years of study.
  3. A copy of the official acceptance letter from the university. The letter must:
  4. Be addressed to the applicant.
  5. State the degree that the applicant has been accepted to study.
  6. State the academic year at which the degree will commence.
  7. State the duration of the course (e.g., one year).
  8. A copy of a valid study permit or visa, OR proof of application. (Optional)
  9. A detailed CV/ Resume of not more than four (4) single-sided pages.
  10. Two reference letters (of not more than 3 pages each) addressing the applicant’s demonstration of integrity, their competency and/or potential as a leader and their commitment to the development of the African continent.


Benefits of 2025 MINDS Fully Funded Scholarship Program to Study in Africa

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

  1. Tuition
  2. Accommodation and meals
  3. One return ticket per duration of studies
  4. A fixed stipend.

First you have to apply to your preferred MINDS university and secure an offical acceptance. if you already have an acceptance letter from any of the selected schools you just go ahead and apply for the scholarship in the MINDS Portal.
