The IAPS AI Policy Fellowship is a fully-funded, three-month program for professionals eager to tackle real-world policy challenges at the frontier of artificial intelligence. Open to individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, the Fellowship provides hands-on experience, expert mentorship, and career development support for those looking to enter or advance in AI policy.
Whether you’re coming from government, industry, academia, or the nonprofit sector, this program is designed to help you make an impact in shaping the future of AI governance.
Eligibility Criteria for Fully Funded AI Policy Fellowship 2025 by Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS)
- Open to professionals from diverse backgrounds
- No technical expertise required
- Two experience-based tracks: Fellow and Senior Fellow
- Required two-week residency in Washington, D.C. (Sept 1–12)
- Participation can continue remotely or in person afterward
- Selection includes:
- Application form
- Written task
- Interview

- Senior Fellows: $22,000
- Fellows: $15,000

Join from Anywhere
Remote Fellows participate fully in all programming and receive a support budget for travel to conferences or expert meetings. IAPS has robust systems for remote engagement and legal hiring in many countries.
Join Us in D.C.
Washington-based Fellows benefit from office space, in-person events, and proximity to policymakers and thought leaders in the AI space.
FAQs
Do I need technical expertise?
No—applicants from all professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Can I apply to both the D.C. and remote tracks?
Yes. Selection processes are separate, and you may be accepted to one or both.
Will relocation support be provided?
Only in exceptional circumstances, based on need.
Can I participate part-time?
The program is full-time by default, but part-time options may be offered in rare cases.
What does the selection process involve?

Can I start late?
Under rare circumstances, a late start (a few weeks after Sept 1) may be allowed.
