Mac Robertson Postgraduate Travel Scholarship (up to £5,000)

The University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow jointly offer the Mac Robertson Postgraduate Travel Scholarship to provide funding for postgraduate research students who are currently registered at the University of Strathclyde or the University of Glasgow to undertake a placement lasting between 2 months and 1 year at a center of advanced study, usually outside the UK. The aim of the funding is to enrich and further the award holder's academic experience and research achievements.

Eligibility Criteria for Mac Robertson Postgraduate Travel Scholarship (up to £5,000)

The Mac Robertson Travel Scholarship is open to all current registered postgraduate research students (PhD, MRes, MPhil, MSc by Research, or similar) at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow.

The Scholarship is open to students from all academic disciplines.

Travel will not be funded within 6 months of starting or within 6 months prior to the applicant’s expected thesis submission date, with the exception of students completing a 1-year master’s degree.

Students who have already submitted or will have submitted before or during the planned travel are ineligible to apply.

Minimum length of the trip is 2 months, with a maximum stay of 12 months.

Applicants to the Mac Robertson Travel Scholarship should show how their research is relevant to both the University of Glasgow and Strathclyde University and how it may contribute to further collaborative research between these two universities. It should be made clear in the application how the intended trip will additional to and not essential to the completion of the applicant's research degree.

Applications should be completed using the online application form on the University of Glasgow Application Portal. Letters or emails confirming your place at the host institution should be submitted to pgr@glasgow.ac.uk as a single combined PDF document using the email subject line "Postgraduate Travel Scholarships <<First Name Surname>>, <<Application Reference>>." The deadline to submit the application form and letter/email confirming your place at the host institution is 5.00 pm, Wednesday, 30th April 2025.
