The Applications are open to apply for the NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship 2026 in the Netherlands. It is a Fully Funded Fellowship for international candidates from around the world. The NIAS Fellowship is offered by the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Fellowship is 5 months long, and it will be held at the NIAS in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from September to January or February to June, 2026. The NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship is a program that helps scholars, artists, writers, and journalists who can’t do their work safely in their home country. This is usually because of war, conflict, or other ways their freedom is taken away. The Safe Haven Fellowship offers temporary relocation that lets them continue their work without fear. Eligibility Criteria for NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship 2026 in Netherlands (Fully Funded)

  1. Candidates from all countries are eligible to apply for the Safe Haven Fellowship.
  2. For Scientific Proposals: You’ll need at least three years of research experience since earning your doctorate by the time you apply.
  3. For Artistic or journalistic Proposal: A PhD or three years of research experience is not required.
  4. Your proposed project must fall within the humanities or social sciences.
  5. Must have a good command of the English Language.
  6. Must be physically available for 4 Days a week.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit a fully completed application form through the online application module. Their proposal should contain a clear description of the project that will be conducted during a stay at NIAS (max. 1000 words), a short motivation (max. 150 words) stating the necessity of a stay at NIAS, and a description of why you are or were compelled to leave your workplace if this applies.
