Each year the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training provides funding to Universities to award scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree Research programs.

ANU currently conducts two annual central scholarship rounds which includes the Australian National University RTP Scholarship, the University Research Scholarship and a few other centrally managed scholarships.

Candidates are ranked and scholarships are awarded based on a competitive ranking process, to the top ranked candidates, subject to evidence they meet merit-based selection criteria, and subject to confirmation of a qualified supervisor, space and resources being available, in an area of research that is aligned with ANU research strategy.

Eligibility Criteria for Australian National University Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship 2025

To be considered for the Australian National University RTP Scholarship, you must:

1. Be a domestic or international student
2. Be applying to study a Higher Research Degree (HDR) Master’s or PhD programme
3. Meet the entry requirements for your chosen programme
4. Meet the Engish Language proficiency requirements of the University of Sydney.

Benefits of Australian National University Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship 2025

The Australian Government Research Training Programme is valued at $ 36,652

per annum.

1. Stipend scholarship for three years, with the possibility of:
2. Six month standard extension; and
3. Another six month extension if the reason for request falls within the additional eligibility criteria under Item 15. Period of Support, of the AGRTP Procedure.
4. Travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra to commence their research program.
5. Thesis allowance
6. Dependant child allowance (International students only).
7. Paid medical, maternity, and parental leave.
