The Master in Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Programme supported by the European Commission. It is jointly conducted by leading universities across Europe and Asia — University for Continuing Education Krems (Austria), Tampere University (Finland), Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), University of Aveiro (Portugal), Beijing Normal University (China), and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (India).

The programme provides students with advanced understanding and research-based skills for leadership and innovation in higher education systems worldwide.

Eligibility Criteria for MARIHE Erasmus Mundus Joint Master 2026

Applicants to the MARIHE programme:

  1. must hold a first university degree. This should be at least a Bachelor's degree issued by a university, quantified as three years of studies corresponding to 180 ECTS,
  2. show a strong motivation and interest for the content of the study programme,
  3. have sufficient knowledge of English for academic purposes

How to Apply

The application period for participation in MARIHE with an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and as a self-funded student (student intake 2026) will be open until 23 November 2025 at 11:00 p.m./23:00(Central European Time).

Please note: There is only one application period for both scholarship and self-funded applicants.

There is a 2-step application process:

1. In the 1st step, you are asked to submit nine mandatory application documents. After the 1st review, you will be notified about the result.

2. In the 2nd step, shortlisted applicants are asked to submit the application document no. 10 (video) within 10 days of notice. After the 2nd review, you will again be notified about the result.

Online submission (1st application step)

1. Register with your name and e-mail address.

Your name should match the information from the scanned copy of your passport / personal identification card or the English translation of your passport / personal identification card.

2. Complete your application as described in our Guidelines for Applicants.
