The Chair of Behavioral Neuroscience and Clinical Neuroscience (headed by Prof. Dr. Armin Zlomuzica) is part of the Research and Treatment Center for Mental Health (FBZ) and the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG) at the Faculty of Psychology of Ruhr University Bochum. The research focus of the Behavioral & Clinical Neuroscience working group is the investigation of learning and memory processes in emotional disorders (including conditioning and episodic memory) as well as the development of transdiagnostic treatment methods for mental disorders. The position is integrated into the Collaborative Research Center 'Extinction Learning' (SFB 1280), which is based at Ruhr University Bochum and in which Prof. Dr. Zlomuzica is the Principal Investigator. This call for applications is subject to funding approval; the decision by the German Research Foundation (DFG) will be made on November 20, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria for Research Assistant (PhD Student) at Ruhr University Bochum 2025

  1. Completed or well-advanced academic university studies in psychology (Master's/Diploma) with above-average grades (minimum requirement Bachelor's degree)
  2. sound knowledge of research methods in experimental psychology and in the application of statistical software (e.g. SPSS, JASP, R etc.)
  3. Experience in conducting quantitative clinical research or experimental or psychophysiological studies (e.g., in a master's thesis or research internship)
  4. very good written and spoken German and English skills
