The WorldSkills Legacy of Skilled Excellence Scholarship 2025-26

The WorldSkills Legacy of Skilled Excellence Scholarship is designed to honour the immense contributions and leadership of Terry Cooke in promoting skilled trade and technology careers to young people in Alberta, and across the globe. Terry was a founding member of Skills Canada Alberta, and former Treasurer for WorldSkills International. The scholarship will recognize students with exemplified exceptional dedication and talent in their trade or technology skill.

Eligibility Criteria for The WorldSkills Legacy of Skilled Excellence Scholarship 2025-26

Recipients must:

1. be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, (Visa students are not eligible).
2. be an Alberta resident, and to be considered an Alberta resident one of the following conditions must apply:
3. - one parent, or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Canada for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies and be residing in Alberta, or
4. - Alberta is the last place the student has lived for twelve (12) consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies, or
5. - the student's spouse/parent is an Alberta resident.
6. be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary program in Alberta.
7. Full-time requires being enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load (40% of a full course load for students with a disability).
8. have received a letter of endorsement from Skills Canada Alberta as the secondary best of province recipient.

An individual may receive a lifetime maximum of four scholarships.

Benefits of The WorldSkills Legacy of Skilled Excellence Scholarship 2025-26

1. $5,000 per year to support the top scoring secondary student on Team Alberta at the Skills Canada National Competition in their chosen field for a maximum of 4 years.

Applicants must submit to Alberta Student Aid:

1. A completed application form, and
2. A copy of the Skills Canada Alberta letter of endorsement.

Note: Scholarship must be claimed within two (2) years of receiving the letter of endorsement from Skills Canada Alberta.
