University of Tokyo Fellowship 2026

Todai Fellowship is financial support to international students who are enrolling in doctoral courses at The University of Tokyo. This fellowship must be applied for at the same time as submitting an application for the entrance examination for the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS).

The GSFS screening result of the fellowship will be notified to applicants after the results of the entrance examination are announced. Nominees selected by GSFS will undergo a final screening by the Division of Global Campus Initiatives and then will be awarded the fellowship. The final and official screening result will be notified in the month of enrollment. Please note that you have a high probability of being awarded the fellowship once you are nominated to the Division of Global Campus Initiatives from GSFS.

Eligibility Criteria for University of Tokyo Fellowship 2026

  1. Those who are applying for admission to a doctoral course of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences.
  2. Those who hold a valid visa to stay in Japan as a "College Student" as of enrollment.
  3. Those who are not applying and/or planning to apply for fellowships or scholarships provided by private organizations.
  4. Documents Required for Application

    1. Application Form for Todai Fellowship
    2. Recommendation letter from your former supervisor
    3. (preferably from your master's program supervisor)
    4. Research Plan
    5. List of past achievements
    6. Transcripts of your master's and bachelor's courses (Documentation of grading criteria must be accompanied)
    7. Copy of presented papers (three main papers)

How to Apply

Submit the fellowship application together with the entrance exam application for GSFS. After the entrance exam results, the GSFS screening outcome is announced. Final selections are made by the Division of Global Campus Initiatives and results are shared at the time of enrollment.
