About Cave Canem

Founded in 1996, Cave Canem is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of Black poets. As a home for Black poetry, Cave Canem offers fellowships, workshops, readings, and publications that support a community of voices often underrepresented in American literature. Its mission is to expand the landscape of American poetry by advancing the work of Black poets and creating a nurturing space for their development.
