The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) supports exceptional early-career scholars through its Postdoctoral Fellowship program. This competitive award provides funding to advance research in the social sciences and humanities, allowing fellows to deepen their expertise, broaden their networks, and make significant scholarly contributions at a Canadian institution.

Eligibility Criteria for SSHRC Canada Postdoctoral Research Award at Brock University 2025
Applicants must:
- Have completed or expect to complete a PhD between Sept 2021 and Sept 2025
- Not currently holding or having held a tenure-track position
- Not have previously received SSHRC postdoctoral funding
- Propose a research program in SSHRC-eligible disciplines
- Secure a supervisor and host department at an eligible Canadian university

Committee 4 (7064) | Education, linguistics, psychology, social work |
Committee 5 (7065) | Economics, industrial relations, law, management, business, administrative studies, and political science |
Committee 6 (7066) | Archival science, communications and media studies, demography, environmental studies, geography, library and information science, urban and regional studies |
If interdisciplinary, choose the most dominant discipline in your research.

Selection Process
Applications are assessed based on
(1) Research Potential and Experience (50%)
- Fellowships or scholarships obtained
- Publications and prior research
- Timely completion of doctoral studies
(2) Quality of Proposed Research Program (50%)
- Originality and potential contribution to the field
- Feasibility and clarity
- Fit with the host institution and supervisor support
Scoring Scale:
- 5–6: Very good to excellent
- 4–4.9: Good to very good
- 3–3.9: Satisfactory to good
- Below 3: Unsatisfactory (not recommended)

How to Apply
- Review the funding opportunity’s merit review section and address the selection criteria when completing the application form and the SSHRC online CV.
- Upload all mandatory PDF documents required for your application.
- Provide application contributors with your program of work, related documents, and the evaluation criteria well in advance of the application deadline.
- Ensure both of your referees have submitted their Letter of Appraisal form so that the status reads “Referee form completed.”
- Ensure your proposed supervisor has submitted the Research Appraisal form so that the status reads “Referee form completed”.
- Ensure the department head has read SSHRC’s Guidelines for Effective Research Training and has submitted the Institutional Nomination and Commitment form so the status reads “Referee form completed.”
- Verify and correct the data until the Verification Report indicates successful verification.
- Click “Submit.”
Note: Once the application has been submitted, its status will first be updated to “Received” before being set to “Forwarded.” Both statuses confirm the application has been properly submitted.
