UNESCO MAB Young Scientists Awards 2025 ($5,000 prize)

Since 2022, the MAB Programme, in collaboration with the Principality of Monaco, has introduced five additional annual awards focusing on marine, island, and coastal ecosystems. These are known as the "MAB Young Scientists Awards - Prince Albert I of Monaco." This initiative underscores UNESCO's commitment to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, promoting research that addresses the challenges facing our oceans.

Eligibility Criteria for UNESCO MAB Young Scientists Awards 2025 ($5,000 prize)

Applicants must:

1. Be 35 years old or younger at the application closing date.
2. Submit their application using the official MAB Young Scientists Award form, available in English and French.
3. Obtain endorsement from their country's MAB
4. National Committee. In countries without an operational committee, the National Commission for UNESCO will oversee the selection.
5. Focus on interdisciplinary research conducted within biosphere reserves, contributing to the implementation of the Lima Action Plan (LAP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Applicants from developed countries are eligible only in exceptional cases or if collaborating with developing countries.

Benefits of UNESCO MAB Young Scientists Awards 2025 ($5,000 prize)

1. Each award provides up to US$5,000 to facilitate research on ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity.

1. Complete the MAB Young Scientists Award application form.​
2. Ensure endorsement from the respective MAB National Committee or National Commission for UNESCO.​
3. Submit the application via email to mab@unesco.org by 15 May 2025.​
