Eligibility Criteria for University of Derby Sport Scholarships 2025

Applicants must:

1. Be enrolled or applying for a degree course at the University of Derby (UG, PG, or online)
2. Be competing at a minimum of a high county level, with some awards requiring national or international recognition
3. Provide evidence of performance level, such as ranking or NGB involvement
4. Submit a sporting reference as part of the application

Selection is based on your sporting level and achievements.

1. Performance Team Sports Scholar

This award is available to high-performing athletes in Badminton, Cycling, Volleyball, and Men’s Basketball.

1. Support Provided: Up to £3,000 fee subsidy and access to dedicated athlete support services.
2. Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate a high national or regional ranking or have national league exposure or equivalent experience from overseas.

2. Individual and Team Sport Scholar

This award covers athletes participating in all BUCS sports not included in the Performance Team programme.

1. Support Provided: Up to £3,000 fee subsidy and support services.
2. Eligibility Levels:
3. Level 1: Senior International—athletes who have represented Great Britain at world championship level within the past 12 months.
4. Level 2: Senior National or Junior International level athletes.
5. Level 3: Junior National level competitors.

3. Talented Athlete Award

This award is also open to participants in all BUCS sports outside the Performance Team programme.

1. Support Provided: Access to athlete support services (no fee subsidy).
2. Eligibility: Athletes selected for a regional National Governing Body (NGB) programme, or those competing in a county first team or holding a high senior county ranking, or international equivalent.
