The School of Arts, Culture and Language is delighted to offer a limited number of scholarships to support students studying Drama, Theatre and Performance through the medium of Welsh. The Edwin Williams Scholars will receive £5,000 each year of their degree (on a three-year programme).

The scholarships are funded through the generous bequest of Rene Myddleton Williams, widow of Edwin Williams (1918-2003), to honor his name and to promote the study and performance of drama and theater studies through the medium of Welsh. Edwin graduated from Bangor in 1939 and went on to teach Dramatic Art and Technique at Bangor Normal College, where he was also head of Drama.

Eligibility Criteria for Edwin Williams Scholarship at Bangor University 2026

Eligible candidates must:

  1. Have applied for and go on to enroll in one of the following BA degrees:
  2. WW34 Music and Drama
  3. P43W Film and Drama
  4. QW34 English Literature and Drama
  5. P31W Media and Drama
  6. At a minimum, take all available drama modules through the medium of Welsh.
  7. Start your course at Bangor University in September 2026.
