Northwestern Ontario & Simcoe County Citizenship Award 2026–2027

In alignment with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, this award gives preference to students from groups historically underrepresented in post-secondary education. These may include, but are not limited to, students from racially or ethnically diverse backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, first-generation students, and individuals from low-income communities.

Eligibility Criteria for Northwestern Ontario & Simcoe County Citizenship Award 2026–2027

  1. Minimum 70% average in Grade 12 U or M fall semester academic marks as of February 2026
  2. Minimum 70% final average in Grade 12 U or M academic marks as of July 2026
  3. Must be direct from high school (no previous post secondary studies)
  4. Must be a citizen, permanent resident, or landed immigrant of Canada
  5. Must plan to attend Lakehead University in the upcoming year on a full-time** basis
  6. Must be eligible to receive funding and demonstrate financial need through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
  7. Must be nominated by an eligible high school guidance department

Up to 2 awards valued at $15,000 ($3,750/year for 4 years)

How to Apply

  1. Eligible high schools nominate one (1) student by January 15 annually
  2. Eligible high schools direct students to complete the "Supplemental Application." Click here to download the Supplemental Application for 2026/2027 if you have been nominated by your high school.
  3. Supplemental application package must be completed electronically in MS Word
