ERC PhD Position – Low-Dimensional Topology 2026

The ERC PhD Position in Low-Dimensional Topology and Knot Theory at Ruhr University Bochum is a 3-year, part-time (75%) fixed-term position starting 1 April 2026. Research focuses on link homology theories including Heegaard Floer and Khovanov homology, and their applications to open topological problems. The position is funded by a German Research Foundation (DFG) grant and an ERC Starting Grant.

Eligibility Criteria for ERC PhD Position – Low-Dimensional Topology 2026

  1. (Essential) Excellent Bachelor's Degree
  2. (Essential) Excellent Master's Degree (or be close to submission)
  3. (Essential) Good communication skills in either English or German.
  4. (Desirable, but not essential) Master thesis in topology, geometry, or algebra.
  5. (Desirable, but not essential) Working knowledge of a programming language (e.g., Python, C, C++).
