The scholarship was established in 2005 and is funded by Riley Consultants Ltd., a New Zealand-owned and operated multidisciplinary consultancy providing a range of water, civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering services. The main purpose of the scholarship is to support the engineering profession by assisting students undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland, with an interest in geotechnical, water resources, or civil engineering.

An $8,000 scholarship for Parts II or III of a BE (Hons) in Civil Engineering for a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
