The Queen’s University Belfast North America Scholarship 2026 supports outstanding undergraduate students from the United States and Canada with a 50% reduction in first-year tuition fees. This award aims to attract high-achieving international students to study in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The scholarship is highly competitive and open across most undergraduate programs except Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Agricultural Technology, Theology, and Law.

Eligibility Criteria for Queen’s University Belfast North America Scholarship 2026

  1. The North America Future Leaders Award is exclusively for new international students domiciled in the USA or Canada.
  2. Students must have applied to Queen’s University and have received an offer of study for a place on a full-time undergraduate programme at the Queen’s University Belfast campus, starting in the academic year 2026/27 and prior to commencement of study have met any academic conditions attached to their offer as stated in their offer letter. Exclusions apply – see point 10 below.
  3. Students must have accepted their offer of study and have made Queen's their FIRM Choice within 5 days of receiving the scholarship.
  4. Students must be classified as international fee-paying students paying the full international tuition fee rate with their domicile being the USA or Canada in order to be considered for this scholarship. Students paying NI or GB fees are not eligible for this scholarship.
  5. Deadline to apply for the North America Future Leaders Award is Sunday 12 April 2026.
  6. The scholarship is awarded for the first year of study only and is deducted from gross tuition fees upon enrolment. The scholarship cannot be used in lieu of any required deposit and no cash alternative is available.
  7. Any North America Future Leaders Award is for entry to Queen’s University Belfast in the academic year 2026/27 and cannot be used for 2027/28 entry or any other year.
  8. If you wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will not be transferred.
  9. Students must be self-funded. Students in receipt of educational loans (e.g. FAFSA applicants or students wishing to utilise 529 plans) are classified as self-funded and are NOT excluded from this award.
  10. If you are in receipt of funding (either tuition fees or tuition fees and living costs) from an external sponsorship/scholarship body such as Government, a charity or a private organisation you will not be eligible for the North America Future Leaders Award.
  11. The following programmes are excluded from eligibility for the North America Future Leaders Award:
  12. Undergraduate: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Agricultural Technology, Theology, Law
  13. ALL Distance Learning programmes, foundation degree programmes and non-standard fee courses, including part-time programmes.
  14. All Study Abroad programmes i.e., visiting study programmes that are not degree conferring
  15. Students must request authorisation from the International Office before making any changes to their programme of study. Where changes are made without authorisation being granted, the scholarship may be withdrawn and students may be required to repay the scholarship in full.
  16. In the event that a student has received scholarship offers for a number of different programmes at Queen’s University Belfast, they will only be able to redeem one scholarship award. This will be the scholarship award for the course onto which they enrol in the 2026/27 academic year.
  17. Applicants may apply and/or be considered for more than one tuition fee award administered by Queen’s University Belfast but if successful would receive the higher of the awards (with the lower value award cancelled or allocated to another applicant).
  18. North America Future Leaders Award cannot be used in conjunction with any other University tuition fee scholarship except the Early Confirmation Award where eligible.
  19. The University is unable to consider requests for increased and/or further funding. The amount of scholarship offered is non-negotiable.

How to Apply

To apply for the North America Future Leaders Award, you must submit a short video and complete the online application form.

This is a competitive process, and not all applications will be successful. The successful candidates will be notified by email week commencing 20 April 2026, if you have not been contacted by this date you can assume you have been unsuccessful.

Your video should be on the following topic:

"In no more than 2 mins please tell us about commitment and contribution to leadership in the local or global community"

Please include specific examples of activities that you have supported and tell us about the outcomes of these activities.

Please read the guidelines carefully:

  1. Videos should be a piece to camera where you speak directly to the selection committee through the camera.
  2. The criteria is not for a high-quality video production; you will be judged on the content and the quality of presentation skills only.
  3. Listen to your video before submitting and make sure that your voice can be heard. Background noise can interfere with recordings e.g. air conditioning or traffic noise. Any videos that cannot clearly be heard or understood due to excessive background noise will not be accepted.
  4. Any videos that exceed the requested length of 2 minutes will NOT be considered
  5. Please ensure that your video can be opened and viewed by us using VLC media player. VLC media player supports many video file formats, and we would recommend MP4. If we cannot open your video your submission will not be accepted.
  6. We would suggest using the WeTransfer* programme to send your video and would ask that you test it to ensure that it can be opened, before sending to northamerica@qub.ac.uk
  7. Please ensure that you clearly identify your submission by including your Queen's University Belfast application reference and your full name. This can be included in the message section when sending your video file by WeTransfer
  8. We will not open any attachments which are submitted with an email which does not clearly identify the applicants full name and application reference or UCAS ID.
  9. We will accept only one video submission per applicant and this will be the first video received. Any additional submissions will be returned unopened.
  10. Once your video has been submitted, it is not possible to change it retrospectively
  11. Make sure you leave sufficient time for us to receive your video. During the busy period before the scholarship deadline a file uploaded to WeTransfer may take several hours to be delivered.
  12. The deadline is Sunday, 12 April, at 00.00 am GMT. Videos received after this deadline will not be opened.

*WeTransfer offers a free file transfer service for 3 days with a file size limit of 2GB. Your video will be downloaded before the 3-day file expiry date which WeTransfer will confirm, and we will send you an acknowledgement. Please be patient and allow us time to download your video before contacting us.
